Happy Summer!

So, it seems like the good weather has finally arrived, hopefully here to stay. I had fairly good weather last weekend for Chagstock, the highlight of which was seeing the Martin Harley Band on the mainstage. I was playing with Marianne Neary and the gig went swimmingly – probably the best that we have so far done.

I have an exciting few weeks ahead of me. This weekend I am going to Warwick Folk Festival, playing with Gog Magog Molly. I’m then going to the English Acoustic Collective Summer School, which I am looking forward to immensely – a chance to play some music without any other distractions. After that it’s Sidmouth time – this is my 11th I think. I’ll be tutoring with Shooting Roots for the first time which should be fun, even though I’ve never done anything similar in my life. Then finally I’ll be dashing across the country to Broadstairs to play with There and Back Again, my piano trio. Continue reading

Specifically, my finals, which are arguably (shock horror) more important than writing this blog. I am currently in the middle of my final report, so might have a few more inactive weeks ahead. I am also half way through writing the third part of “Inside and Out”, but to keep you going and informed I thought I’d write you this post on my next few weeks. Continue reading

Musings on playing for song

So I’ve had a few absolutely manic weeks and things are looking to get even worse, so don’t be surprised if I don’t update this blog much over the next week or two. But I thought that I would take this opportunity (it being 3am) to provide you with some musings on something that I started doing very recently.

The last “Musings” post that I did was on something that I have done for years, namely playing for dance. I still have a long way to go in that sphere, but feel that I at least know what I am aiming for. Last Friday though, I did something that I had never done before – accompanied song in public. I am going to tell you about it. Continue reading
